Immunization & Wellness Care
We strive to prevent illness whenever possible. The time and effort invested in Wellness programs has rewards for both pets and owners. Our Wellness programs are designed specifically for your pet and include: Comprehensive physical exam; internal parasite testing; heart-worm and flea control; vaccination program; spay and neuter package; and specialized blood tests for all life stages.
Annual exams are key in maintaining the well-being of your pet, because we can identify illnesses and metabolic changes that often may go undetected. Exams become even more important when we are dealing with senior pets. Remembering, one human year is equivalent to approximately 3-7 years in a pet’s life. Therefore, senior pets should have a bi-annual wellness exams due to the many rapid changes that occur with age.

Dental Care
Proper dental care is important to all of us, including our pets. Gingivitis, plaque and periodontal disease are a major cause of heart, kidney and liver disease. At the James Bay Vet Clinic we use a modern and safe ultrasonic scaler to clean each tooth thoroughly - above and below the gum line. Our trained dental technicians polish teeth to create a smooth, lustrous tooth surface more resistant to plaque buildup. A fluoride treatment is then applied to the teeth to help strengthen enamel and reduce tooth sensitivity.
James Bay Vet Clinic is also able to provide Digital Dental Radiology. Many conditions can be missed without dental X- rays. High resolution Digital Dental Radiographs show the tooth pulp, roots, crown and surrounding bone of each tooth with dramatic clarity. This information helps our doctors uncover hidden conditions such as tooth abscesses, cavities, resorptive lesions and fractures which can cause pain in your pet. Often the owner is not aware of the problem since most animals will continue to eat.
Advice will be given for future home care, like choice of diets, pet chews, brushing and methods of slowing down the production of plaque and tartar.

Radiology
Radiology – or X-rays – help our veterinarians evaluate muscular, skeletal, cardiovascular (cardiopulmonary), gastrointestinal, reproductive and urinary systems. We use Digital Radiography (DR) technology that provides high resolution X-ray images at a low radiation dose most often encountered with film.
Digital x-rays have the advantages of rapid image acquisition as well as a vastly superior quality when compared to other x-ray systems. We are able to view the images from different computers throughout the hospital. Another benefit is that x-rays can be electronically sent for viewing by a Radiology Specialist if this is indicated. Unlike in human medicine, our technologists are always in the room with your pet. This means that your pet is never alone while the x-rays are being taken.
